Are College Softball Prospect Camps Worth It?
Updated October 2026
College softball prospect camps let a coaching staff see your daughter up close, on their field, running their drills. Recent camps we looked at cost about $120 to $300 each, before travel. Pick the right ones and a camp can start a real recruiting conversation. Pick the wrong ones and it’s an expensive day of watching someone else get recruited.
Pick camps where she fits the roster
- Choose schools whose typical recruit has numbers close to hers.
- Go to one or two camps at schools on her target list, not ten at big names.
- Email the coach before camp with her numbers, video and travel schedule.
Timing matters at D1: coaches can’t have recruiting conversations with a camper until September 1 of her junior year. A D1 camp before then is a chance to be seen, not to talk offers.
Make your money count
Showcases, tournaments and camps only pay off when you’re aiming at the right level. The Softball Future full report shows where she stands, for less than one showcase.

Typical costs from published 2026 event prices: individual softball showcases about $199 to $295, college prospect camps about $120 to $300, and a national tournament adds several hotel nights plus flights or a long drive. Your costs will vary.
Signs a camp is a money grab
- Hundreds of campers and only a few staff watching.
- No contact with the coaches who actually recruit her position.
- A program far above her current level that rarely signs campers.
The fastest way to choose well is to know which level her numbers fit right now.
